Der Artikel präsentiert Ergebnisse einer komparatistischen Untersuchung zur literarischen Gestaltung der Erzählinstanz in Herodots Historien und der Hebräischen Bibel. Zwei zentrale Hinsichten sind dabei die Textanteile von besprechender und erzählender Darstellung sowie die Gestaltung der Erzählerfigur und ihre Wirkung auf die Adressaten. Die These, meta-narrative Kommentare seien die Voraussetzung einer bewussten Geschichtsdarstellung, wird kritisch erörtert.

This article presents some results of a comparative study of Herodotus’ Histories and the Hebrew Bible, focusing on the literary design of the narrator. Two central aspects are the proportions of discursive vs. diegetic representation and the design of the narrating persona and its effect on the audience. The article also contains a critical discussion of the view that meta-narrative commentaries are the prerequisite of conscious/reflective history writing.
