In 1930 Dr. W.Lüdi established a number of test surfaces in a Sieversio-Nardetum. In the part described here, the vegetation was destroyed. A seed-mixture collected on Schynige Platte was sawn and then different fertilizers were used.
It is astonishing that the seed had almost no influence on the establishment of a new sward (for the very small quadrats of 1 m2), while the manure with a combination of N, P, K and Ca changed the vegetation in a way clearly visible still now, after 25 years without human treatment. N, P, K promote the food plants, Ca brings a diminution of acidophilous species. The combination of N, P, K and Ca is the one with the greatest and largest effect.
