Since it was founded at the at the beginning of the twentieth century, Casa Carducci was configured as a place devoted to cultural memory and as a multifunctional historic house museum, seat also of Carducci’s archive and library. This paper firstly reviews the history of this institution on the basis of the study "Erinnerungsräume" by Aleida Assmann which also serves as a theoretical framework. Special attention, in this context, is paid to the destiny of Carducci’s manuscript legacy and to the establishment of his archive. Secondly, the focus is placed upon a manuscript which is preserved in Carducci’s archive and which has not yet been made subject of a specific study: the autograph of the unpublished
Italian translation of the epilogue of Heinrich Heine’s treatise "Zur Geschichte der Religion und Philosophie in Deutschland". A critical edition of the text is for the fist time published in the Appendix to the paper. Carducci’s translation isn’t mentioned in the catalogues of his manuscripts and constitutes a relevant testimony of how intensely Carducci dealt with Heine’s treatise. Finally, the paper analyzes the productive intertextual relationship between Heine’s text and Carducci’s own poetry, with special attention to the collection "Giambi ed Epodi" (1882).
