This paper is part of a larger research project that analyzes the dissemination and reception of
progressive Catholicism in the Andean region throughout the 1960s and 1970s.1 The case study of Puno will form the central geographical focus of my dissertation, in which I seek to examine the recent social history of the Catholic Church through a multimethod approach, using archival documents, audiovisual data and oral history to reconstruct personal and organizational trajectories within two ecclesiastical jurisdictions, the Prelature of Ayaviri and the Diocese of Puno (1958 – 1986).
