No Final Hallel: Material Sources for Psalms 146–150 This paper will present the oldest material sources for Psalms 146-150 (often called the «Final Hallel» of the Masoretic Psalter). It will start with manuscript evidence for the individual Psalms 146, 147, 148, 149, and 150 in the Dead Sea Scrolls in 4QPsd (mid-1st century BCE), MasPsb (second half of the 1st century BCE), and 11QPsa (first half of the 1st century CE). It will then present the oldest Greek material evidence in the Septuagint manuscripts Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus (4th century CE), and finally the Hebrew Masoretic manuscripts Aleppo Codex and Leningrad Codex (10th and 11th century CE). The paper will show that in their oldest extant manuscripts, Psalms 146-150 show significant differences from the Masoretic Text in their arrangement, super- and subscriptions, and content. This also affects the problem of intertextual connections between Psalms 146-150, and calls into question the priority of the Masoretic Psalter. Overall, in material sources much older than the Masoretic manuscripts, Psalms 146-150 do not form a Final Hallel at the end of a book of Psalms.
