It is vital to discuss the future of the Zeitschrift für Sportpsychologie and include the language issue in this debate. In this article, the focus lies on developments in the past 40 years. Whereas in the 1980s and 1990s, German-language sport psychology produced only a few articles in English, this picture has changed in the new century. However, at the same time, there has been an overall increase in the number of publications and pertinent journals. Against this background, the pros and cons of changing to English as the main language of the journal are discussed. In conclusion, a continuation of the German-language journal is recommended with a focus on translational research for the benefit of applied sport psychologists working in the different fields of sport.
