My research looks into the institutional, operational and material aspects of medieval towns’ military organisation. The research is concentrated on (what is today) the French speaking part of Switzerland – the so-called Romandie. Today, this region is part of the Switzerland. During the Middle Ages, however, it was divided into many entities and subject of different polities. This impacted the institutional, social and, of course, military development of the various towns in the area.
