This paper explores Receptive Ecumenism as a strategy of intercultural and inter-ecclesial ecumenical learning. It examines the concept in terms of the relational process of being Christ-like; as transformative praxis, or being Church ecumenically; as the relational dynamic of being an ecclesial fellowship in missio Dei; and as the ecclesial identity of belonging together in Christ. The conference at which this paper was first presented engaged two levels or forms of interculturality, namely, the cultures of place (Indian and European) and the cultures of ecclesial identity (Mar Thoma and Old Catholic). Accordingly, this paper concludes by asking how Receptive Ecumenism might inform relations between the Mar Thoma and Old Catholic Church communities as well as other bi-lateral ecumenical relationships elsewhere.
