In it, concepts of nation and migration, identity and belonging, politics and emotions are negotiated, which are important themes for the field of history didactics. The study assumes that a comparison with cultural-historical exhibitions on Heimat makes visible a change in the historical-cultural approach to Heimat-stories. To this end, the Swiss exhibition concept »Heimat. Eine Grenzerfahrung (2017/18)« (Heimat. A boundary experience (2017/2018) will be located on the one hand within discourses about Heimat on the eve of the First and Second World War – and on the other hand against the background of current Heimat-stories in Germany and Switzerland that talk about experiences of exclusion and discrimination. The migration- historical approach opens a critical view on racism on discriminatorily constructed Heimat-stories by emphasizing the transnational »normality« of migration and naming historical and current conjunctures of migration movements.
