Medieval Latin and the Latin Middle Ages in Switzerland. In memoriam Peter Stotz

This article takes stock of the situation of Medieval Latin in Switzerland as of 2021, exploring its role in the university environment at both disciplinary and interdisciplinary levels. Beyond this, I examine the subject's relevance to and participation in national and international projects for the study of the Middle Ages – from dictionaries and edition projects to manuscript catalogues and encyclopaedias. In addition, I show how Medieval Latin can also play a role in schools and the wider public – as illustrated by the work of Peter Stotz, who was involved in all the areas mentioned and to whose memory this contribution is dedicated.
