This text critically considers the modalities and means musicologists have in order to contribute to public debates in a democracy about armed conflicts. Taking a reflexive approach, it recounts the process of writing and publishing an opinion piece about two solidarity concerts with Ukraine, organized in Vilnius and Berlin three weeks after the invasion ordered by Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022. The following discussion addresses issues surrounding the publication of musicological research on politically sensitive topics in the form of opinion pieces.
