Background
Factors of work influence health-related components of well-being and interact with the performance of working people.

Objective
The aim of the study is to understand relationships between work-related parameters and the well-being of employed people, with particular reference to five different occupational profiles—physical/mental work, with management tasks (w/mgmt) and without management tasks (w/o mgmt).

Methods
The survey on workload, work engagement, work-related social resources and well-being was compiled in an iterative process from evaluated and established scales. The data of 3350 employees working in Switzerland in various occupational groups and industries were collected and evaluated using mathematical models (confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation model and k‑means clustering).

Results
Statistically significant correlations were found between workload, work engagement and well-being, which differed between the different job profiles. The correlation between workload and well-being had a higher statistical correlation for employees w/mgmt. The meaningfulness of the work is particularly important in mental activities.

Discussion
The present analysis shows the differentiated relevance of work-related factors on well-being and forms a basis for preventive measures.
