In this paper, I gave an overview of what we know on how castration was performed in the Islamic world. I then reflected on how eunuchs were gendered in Islamic law and then I discussed the dynamic relation between gender, power and family structures in the Fatimid Empire (909-1171), focusing specifically on specific case studies.
