In this book I look at contemporary discussion on homosexuality and how they are influenced by pre-modern jurists' interpretation on sihaq and liwat (tribadism and sodomy). In particular, I analyse how contemporary Egyptian judicial practice (and to a minor extent Lebanese judicial practice) is influenced by contemporary religious discussion on homosexuality. I look at contemporary legal verdicts, but also at contemporary fatwas, showing how both reinterpret pre-modern understandings of same-sex sexual acts and apply them to the modern notion of homosexuality.
