This special issue I edited looks at how the issue of gender equality and women’s rights are addressed (if at all) within the constitutions of a number of countries in the Middle East and North Africa. The articles present different methodological approaches and focus on different countries. However, they all share a concern for one aspect: the relevance of law, and especially constitutional law, for gender equality. The case-studies included in the special issue are: Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon and Iran.
