Travelers in Italy often had contact with the medical profession,
with pharmacists, took medicines… or went to the baths as part of
their Grand Tour. This lecture, which focuses on the frequentation
of the baths of Lucca, Bagni di Lucca, by some European writers,
thus crosses the themes of travel in Italy, thermalism, pharmacy
and literature. Texts of some authors will be discussed, such as
Michel de Montaigne, Alexandre Dumas and Heinrich Heine.

Bien souvent les voyageurs en Italie avaient dans le cadre de leur
Grand Tour, des contacts avec le corps médical, avec les
pharmaciens, prenaient des médicaments... ou allaient aux bains.
Cette relation, qui met l’accent sur la fréquentation des bains de
Lucques, Bagni di Lucca, par quelques écrivains européens,
croise ainsi les thèmes du voyage en Italie, du thermalisme, de la
pharmacie et de la littérature. Plusieurs auteurs y seront évoqués,
comme Michel de Montaigne, Alexandre Dumas ou encore
Heinrich Heine
