Scatter diagrams of various allegedly diagnostic characters of the two species pairs Bromus hordeaceus/ B. molliformis and B. racemosus/ B. commutatus, based on measurements of material from various parts of their European range, show a considerable overlap and point to the frequent occurrence of intermediates. In both cases, subspecific status appears to be more appropriate for the taxa under consideration - which had already been proposed in 1955 by MAIRE and WEILLER.
