In this paper, I offered some reflections on the relevance of gender, sexuality and LGBTQI+ studies within the field of Middle Eastern Studies. The paper was part of a roundtable on Teaching Gender Studies in Middle Eastern Studies, organised by Nadia Al-Bagdadi, Randi Deguilhem and Bettina Dennerlein, with the aim of discussing a new textbook and a new handbook on gender in Middle Eastern Studies.
