In this paper, I focused on two different aspects: on the one hand, I shared some practical reflections on the importance of the active engagement of intellectuals for academic freedom. On the other hand, I reflected on the use (and misuse) of the concept of academic freedom as a means of denying accountability, especially in relation to discussions about structural inequalities and discrimination, a discussion that is particularly central in the German academic environment.
