Full text not available from this repository. The renewal of theater writing in Polish modernism owes as much to a man, Stanisław Wyspiański, as to a woman, Gabriela Zapolska. For both, their time in Paris in the 1890s stimulated their vocation as playwrights, which would reach its full development at the turn of the century in Cracow. Nevertheless, whereas Wyspiański enjoyed immediate recognition at the national and international level, such was not the case of Zapolska who, even today, is unknown outside her country. How can we explain this difference in notoriety between two equally innovative art-ists who worked in the same circles and at the same time?
