The article deals with common sociological perceptions of "power" as they are widely received in theological contexts. The meaning of power in Old Catholic contexts is then explored on the basis of three concrete examples from German-speaking Old Catholicism: in the context of the debate about the First Vatican Council; as a power of historiographical interpretation; and as the “delicate power” of the president of liturgy. Power should be understood as “responsibility”(and therefore as accountability) and as “power-in-relation”. The author advocates for facing the discussion about power and concealment more structurally than before, both historically and in the context of current attention to sexualized violence.
