Tendencies of a compression of labour and the blurring of the boundaries between leisure and work are illustrated by examples from Dave Eggers' novel 'The Circle'. Those tendencies plausibilize a link between modern forms of employment and the increase in bournout and depression diagnosis. Since the empirical evidence for those links remains insufficient to support the intuition that those forms of work are problematic, a different and ethical access to a critical view on modern forms of employment is proposed.
