Television is a "dominating" medium within many societies. It is therefore object of ongoing contentions between external influences and journalistic autonomy. The recent political transformations in Venezuela produced massive changes in the country's media landscape. The government under President Hugo Chávez founded several TV channels that propagate their emancipatory aims in order to democratise television. This "new" television promises new perspectives based on the concept of participatory representations, which seeks to integrate all Venezuelans. In particular marginalised groups, such as the country's indigenous peoples, should be integrated into this project through increased media presence and participation in the process of production. How are indigenous peoples represented in the new state-run television? What can be considered as participatory representation? Those questions are answered in this paper by analysing a case study in visual anthropology.
