The large number of stratified archaeological objects found at the Colonia Augusta Raurica allows for various methodical approaches in order to reconstruct coin use and coin loss in Imperial times.
In this contribution the Authors comment on two different ways of combining archaeological context and numismatic data.
On the one hand a small group of stratified coins from a well-documented workshop is interpreted. On the other hand a larger series of coins from closely dated contexts in the upper town of the Roman city are studied. Both approaches give valuable information as to the development of daily coin use in a Roman town in Germania Superior.
