Ausgehend von Bill Gammages Studie «The Biggest Estate on Earth» über die Gestaltung des für Europäer unbekannten fünften Kontinentes will der vorliegende Vortrag die politische, gesellschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Entwicklung Australiens ab dem ausgehenden 18. Jahrhundert nachzeichnen und zeigen, wie eng das Schreiben über Geschichte das eigene Selbstverständnis geprägt hat und prägt.
