von Brescius, Moritz (2019). Empires of opportunity: German naturalists in British India and the frictions of transnational science’ (Unpublished). In: Humboldt & Sons: Science and Nature in the Age of Revolutions. Florenz. Mai 2019.
During the age of Revolutions, German naturalists changed the way we understand the natural world. Two recent books Le Monde dans un carnet. Alexander von Humboldt en Italie (2018) by Marie-Noëlle Bourget and German Science in the Age of Empire (2019) by Moritz von Brescius show how this radical conception of nature was promoted in a global context. This books presentation will provide an opportunity to understand the foundation of global sciences by taking into account scientific practices in the field.
