In the focus of the present study stand the animal metaphors of Ps 22, with references to God, as well as to the divine sphere. The current analysis builds on the interaction theory developed by Max Black and Paul Ricoeur on the multiple levels of metaphors. These metaphors reveal the majestic and threatening side of God simultaneously, and, according to their interactive nature, concern the broader spectrum of iconographical materials, the correspondences between text and traditions, and how these are connected on the horizon of reception history. The intertextual structure of the Psalm offers a paradigmatic way of fictionality, as it opens up new realms of experience and re-constructs reality.
