This habilitation thesis will focus on one protozoan and one helminth parasite, namely the flagellate Giardia lamblia and the cestode Echinococcus multilocularis. They are both zoonotic agents of high relevance. G. lamblia is the causative agent of the diarrheal disease giardiasis, and E. multilocularis causes alveolar echinococcosis (AE), one of the deadliest helminth diseases. As chemotherapeutical treatment is a crucial part of the management of these two parasitic diseases, the models for development of new treatment options, in particular against these two parasites, will be further elaborated.
