(Request a copy)For multiple reasons, certain socially disadvantaged populations are more affected by colorectal cancer but have lower screening rates than wealthier populations. The Vaud colorectal cancer screening program (CCR) provides a 20-page decision support tool for the 50-69-year-old population. Three new tools have now been designed specifically for citizens with a low level of health literacy: a simplified 6-page leaflet presenting the choice of a Fecal Occult Blood Test (FIT) and colonoscopy; a 2-page leaflet presenting the detection and screening of 4 common cancers; and a short video presenting the FIT test. By adapting our approach to each individual's level of health literacy, we can ensure a shared decision for all.
