Research projects funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) are obliged to publish in open access; projects approved as of 1.1.2023 must publish with immediate open access (embargoes are no longer accepted). Research data underlying publications must be made publicly available unless there are legal, ethical, copyright, or other impediments. Research data must be shared at the latest together with the respective publication. Further data can be shared, but this is not mandatory. Since 17 April 2023, the SNSF has been required to submit a data management plan (DMP) for the approved projects only. The DMP must be submitted before the project starts and should be updated regularly throughout the project life cycle.
