Background: The request of adolescents for a contraceptive method is to be seen in the context of youth sexuality.
Objectives: Important information and recommendations for the consultation are provided.
Materials and methods: International guidelines, standard references, basics of counselling practice and assumptions of the model Sexocorporel for understanding sexual health are included.
Results: Reproductive health care supports young women in the conscious choice of a convenient contraceptive method. In addition to the use and effect of the method, important knowledge about body and sexuality can be imparted, while uncertainties and questions can be clarified.
Conclusions: A comprehensive consultation promotes physician–patient relations and the compliance of young women, and makes an important contribution to the prevention of her sexual health.
