LIVIA: Effects of an internet-based self-help intervention for older adults after bereavement or divorce (Unpublished). In: 15th Swiss Psychological Society (SPS SGP SSP) conference - "Treasuring the diversity of psychology". Lausanne, Switzerland. 04.09.-05.09.2017.

This study within the NCCR LIVES project evaluated a guided internet-based self-help intervention for older adults with prolonged grief and persistent adaptation problems after marital bereavement and after separation/divorce. The intervention was based on the dual-process model of coping with bereavement by Stroebe and Schut and consisted of 10 text-based sessions and one supportive email a week. Outcome variables included grief, depression, psychopathological distress, life satisfaction, embitterment and loneliness. By March 2017, 98 participants were randomised. Preliminary pre-post analyses showed a significant improvement in all outcome variables for participants in the direct access group and moderate effect sizes compared to the waiting control group. Further analyses will examine predictors of outcomes. This is the first internet-based self-help intervention for prolonged grief and emotional adaptation problems after separation or divorce. A similar efficacy was confirmed for bereaved and divorced participants. Additional analyses will further compare predictors and effects for both groups.
