This book provides a theoretically and methodologically sophisticated analysis of the determinants of participation in popular votes. It examines in detail the effects on the dependent variables as well as the effects on and relationships between explanatory variables. What stimulates individual participation in the medium-term the most: involving the individual psychologically in politics, integrating them into networks or the resources of eligible voters? Moreover, what is the relationship between personality traits and participation or between personality traits and the effects of the traditional explanatory variables on participation? Using measured survey data and structural equation modelling, this book breaks down and quantifies the direct, indirect and total effects on voter participation and the moderating effects of personality traits.
