Dekulturalisierte, von kulturellen und staatlichen Räumen entkoppelte, Religionen haben weltweit an Bedeutung gewonnen. Zugleich beobachten wir Sakralisierungen von Kulturen und politische Aufladungen kulturreligiöser Symbole. Beides hängt nicht nur eng zusammen, sondern hat viel mit der Globalisierung und einer Dekulturalisierung des Kapitalismus zu tun.
