In addition, a local view of the intrinsic architecture of an edge computing host is analysed. Subsequently, a standard reference architecture of the edge computing platform is presented, which defines the internal and external interfaces among components at the computing host and system levels. The reference architecture is matched to the network function virtualisation management and orchestration (NFV MANO) model for consideration as a virtualised network function (VNF). In particular, the position and roles of VNF edge computing in the standard mobile network reference model are demonstrated. Finally, the open issues and challenges are presented by way of conclusion.
