(Request a copy)As written in the chronicle of Zurich the castle Oberrinach had been destroyed by lucerne troops among other castles during the wars of Sempach 1385/86. It had been in possession of a family of Rinach from the ministeriales of the dukes of Austria. Since 1852 there have been several excavations on the site. The excavations showed that the castle seemed to have been destroyed by an event of fire. The findings include a potsherd dating to the 13th or 14th century AD, stove tiles dating to the 14th century AD and iron objects like a dagger, a lamella of a brigantine or an axe. The stove tiles show traces of a secondary firing. Fragments of clay are burnt onto some tiles. In the clay have been found impressions of cords. This could indicate a construction located inside the clay
for the stabilisation of the stove. The comparison of the findings from castle Oberrinach with findings from absolute dated sites and traces of a fire supports the dating by the chronicle into the year 1385/86.
