Dieser Artikel diskutiert die Rolle der Chirurgie bei der primären Tumortherapie von Kopf-Hals-Plattenepithelkarzinomen. Die Chirurgie hat sich in den letzten 30-40 Jahren drastisch verändert, nämlich von radikal - nicht-konservativen zu funktionell - konservativen Prozeduren. Die Entwicklung minimal invasiver Technologien ist einer der chirurgischen Fortschritte, welche geholfen haben, die Morbidität und schlechten funktionellen Auswirkungen der radikalen Operationen zu senken.
