Fools in Christo. On the Unorthodox in Orthodoxy

The words of St. Paul: “We are fools for Christ’s sake”, has lead people time and again to refuse radically social conventions and to behave themselves as simpletons, rebels or even “idiots”. This form of piety (ascetism) – strange for many Christians – plays an important role in the Russian Orthodox Church up to this day.

Biographical, literary and theological encounters with the »Jurodivye«, the “fools for Christ’s sake”, in the course of a conference of the organisation »Church in the East« in 2016, helped promote a better understanding of Orthodoxy.
