Providing land for housing. This is the policy goal of the reform of the German Building Code. This reform was approved by the Federal Government in November 2020 and it follows the recommendations of a governmental commission for building land. Housing is recognized as an issue of land management and thus a question of land policy. With this, land policy is rediscovered in Germany. The new law adjusts and extends existing instruments of land policy. This contribution reflects on the changes from an international perspective, based on experiences in Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium. It can be concluded that there are many parallels in instruments and strategies of land policy, which can stimulate the discussions in Germany. These insights can also provide promi- sing approaches as well as caveats.
