One of the goals of promoting sport and exercise is to create the best possible fit between the person and the sport. In particular, people’s sports-related motives and goals must be taken into account. If these are satisfied, this promotes well-being and attachment to the activity. The following motives and goals can be found in sport: figure / appearance, contact, competition / performance, aesthetics, distraction / catharsis, activation / enjoyment, fitness and health. The importance of these motives and goals varies greatly from person to person. Each person therefore has a unique motive and target profile. The person-exercise fit can be promoted by offering tailor-made sport and exercise programs, adapting or expanding an existing range of offers or providing individual counseling.
