Theoretical Background: There is a current need for specific assessment tools in the
psychotherapy of migrant populations. Research Questions: This article presents the
Turkish translations of the Inventory of Approach and Avoidance Motivation (IAAM)
and the Incongruence Questionnaire (INC), as well as their psychometric evaluation.
Methods: 73 Turkish migrants who are current psychotherapy patients in Switzerland
and 230 Turkish non-patient migrants in Switzerland completed IAAM and INC. Results:
The scales of IAAM and INC showed satisfactory reliabilities as well as evidence
of validity. Patients generally reported stronger avoidance goals as well as higher incongruence levels than control subjects. Conclusions: The Turkish-language IAAM
and INC are well suited for use in clinical research and practice.
