Evidence on the so-called Quiet-Eye phenomenon suggests that a long final fixation before movement initiation characterizes superior motor performance, especially in targeting tasks. Taking a cognitive approach to explain this relationship, it is suggested that prolonged Quiet Eye durations might optimize processes of movement parameterization. In the present study this suggestion was further investigated by experimentally manipulating the task aims in a ball-throwing task. Results show that the spatial anchoring of the QE is shifted as a function of the task aim. Furthermore, it is shown that throwing accuracy depends on the spatial an-choring of the QE. Taken together, these results provide further support for a cognitive ex-planation of performance benefits of a longer QE.
