Alexander von Humboldt published close to 800 essays, papers and articles in se-veral languages and in numerous fields of study. Appearing in a wide range of Euro-pean and non-European journals and books, his essays match the reach of his tra-vels and the global scope of his research. His multidisciplinary approach is high-lighted by the multitude of his co-authors and cooperations with other scholars. Thus, Humboldt’s many smaller works provide evidence for his significance as a resear-cher, a travel writer and a mediator between cultures. The first complete edition of this part of Humboldt’s œuvre is currently in progress at the University of Bern, Switzerland, and scheduled for release in 2019 on the occasion of Humboldt’s 250th birthday. This edition aims to systematize and document this corpus and to make it accessible through a critical and annotated book edition as well as an electronic edi-tion featuring digital analytics.
Alexander von Humboldt (1769–1859), articles and essays, international publishing activities, history of science, critical edition.
