Gösken, Urs (2016). The Perception of Heidegger‘s Philosophy as Non-Reductionist by Iranian 20th Century Intellectuals (Unpublished). In: Eleventh Biennial Iranian Studies Conference. University of Vienna. 02.-05.08.2016.
Full text not available from this repository. In order to formulate a counter discourse to the official discourse of the Pahlavī era that championed what could be termed as 'means-ends rationalism' or 'vulgar positivism', Iranian intellectuals since the early 1960s heavily drew on Western existentialist philosophy, notably Heidegger and Sartre, to overcome what they felt as a reduction of human being to utter meaninglessness. The paper deals with the question of what made existentialist philosophy, especially Heidegger's, appear to many Iranian intellectuals as an attractive alternative in their attempt to overcome the perceived meaninglessness of the modern subject.
