Full text not available from this repository. (Request a copy)This article discusses to which theoretical concepts and research questions in the field of public policies social network analysis (SNA) can make a fruitful contribution.
I argue that only by combining SNA with a content analysis we can study appropriately a given decision making process and explain policy outputs. This article illustrates the challenges and possibilities to combine SNA with multicriteria analysis and indicates the contribution of SNA in the field of public policies. Concretely, the analysis of the Swiss climate policy as a case study shows where multicriteria analysis confirms SNA’s findings, and where it gives even additional and necessary content information to explain policy outputs.
Finally, the author answers the question if both methods together strengthen the understanding of a specific policy development and if they realise an added value to research projects in social sciences.
