The subject of this article is the hagiotoponymy of the Swiss canton of Bern. After having looked at hagiotoponymy as a type of name formation and at its share in the names of the municipalities of Switzerland, a small selection of place names formed from saints’ names will be presented and analysed. The data will be taken from the scientific collection of the onomastic research center at the University of Bern (Forschungsstelle für Namenkunde der Universität Bern). In this context, the issue of the traces which the introduction of the Reformation has left in the Bernese hagiotoponymy will be briefly touched upon as well.
