A pedagogical mission statement developed by a day-care facility's pedagogical staff states the goals, tasks, key aspects, and overall processes visible to the public. Thus, it can serve as an important measure of quality assurance for child day-care institutions. In this article we discuss the relevance of pedagogical mission statements for day-care facilities and describe the development of a criteria catalogue with 15 categories for analyzing these documents. Furthermore, we explain how the catalogue can be used for external evaluation.
