Klein Cardoso, Silas (11 July 2022). Beyond the image-text divide: in search of a multidimensional approach to visual artifacts and biblical texts (Unpublished). In: IOSOT / Beyond the “Biblical World” Paradigm. Zurich. 2022.

First, while verbal and non-verbal codes are well-addressed, the objects’ material qualities and contexts are often overlooked. Secondly, while methods have their premises exhaustively discussed on logical grounds, their assumptions and reliance on contemporary paradigms are hardly discussed. Thirdly, while it is widely known that interartistic comparisons are inclined to subjectivities, the subject-researcher and their academic cultures are not assessed. This article argues that these asymmetries are to some extent the result of an “image-text” divide that shapes and informs comparisons. Therefore, this text exposes these asymmetries and sketches a multidimensional approach to overcome them.
