Enquanto subcultura territorial, os Estudos Bíblicos promovem a figura do exegeta, portador (neo)religioso da Verdade. Tal subespécie de homo academicus intermedia, além de palavras divinas e verdades de mundos-além, o conceito religião. A comunicação critica o papel do exegeta veterotestamentário a partir da análise das obras da “Escola de Friburgo”, movimen- to fundante do que se convencionou chamar Exegese Iconográfica, que integrou fontes visuais ao repertório do historiador da religião da antiga Palestina e do antigo Israel. Observa-se, nesse âmbito, a influência da rede de acadêmicos na redefinição da categoria religião na História da Religião de Israel dos últimos trinta anos.
