2020 has proven to be an eventful year, highlighting our vulnerabilities and increasing our uncertainty. This is not only driven by the Covid pandemic, but also by social movements gaining further momentum in the fight against the rampant injustices in our society. Insisting on the need for change, these movements call for the investigation of our world view and the so-called "normal," highlighting their implicit biases. Structural racism and sexism can no longer be ignored – which holds true for the design community as well, as Jonas Berthod shows here. The Swiss design historian, writer, and graphic designer showcases the initiative Teaching Design, a platform for critical educational material that campaigns for a reform of the design canon, taking postcolonial and feminist perspectives into account.
